Parkinson’s Disease Support Group
Parkinson’s disease – learn the signs, how it progresses, and how to treat it. We provide group exercise and movement facilitation led by a physical therapist and guest presenters instructing in tai chi and yoga, speech therapy, Q&A, oral motor and voice exercises led by a speech therapist, and expert guest speakers that may include pharmacists, neurologists, nutritionists, mental health professionals, surgeons, patients and caregiver training.

The stroke support group is a community organization for stroke survivors and their family members, friends and others. The Senior Services Division provides and/or arranges a variety of services for Flagler County residents that are over the age of 60. Services are funded by grants from the federal Older Americans Act, the state’s Community Care for the Elderly program and the county general fund and include the following:
Meal delivery service offers five pre-packaged, frozen meals complete with bread, dairy beverage, dessert and are diabetic-friendly. The meals are delivered every Tuesday to individuals who are over the age of 60 and are eligible for this service. Meals meet 1/3 of the USDA suggested daily nutritional requirements and provide consistency in both quality and quantity. Meals can be heated in a microwave or a conventional oven. Client Pet Support Program
Knowing that seniors with pets are 36% less likely to report loneliness and have 21% fewer doctor visits, Senior Services is proud to announce that it has received a $1,000 grant from Meals on Wheels America to support its client pet support program. AARP Driver Safety Program
The nation’s first and largest classroom course for motorists ages 50 and older. This beautiful 1,500 acre preserve is situated in the northern part of Flagler County and attracts nature enthusiasts from near and far. Picnic, hike, fish, horseback ride or camp. The 1500 acres was purchased by Henry Cutting in 1886 and passed on to his widow Angela Mills Cutting Worden, who eventually married Boris Scherbatoff, an exiled Russian prince. Angela assumed the life of princess and it was then that the once named “Cherokee Grove” came to be known as Princess Place. Although the formal gardens are the centerpiece of this park, Washington Oaks is also famous for the unique shoreline of coquina rock formations that line its Atlantic beach. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Matanzas River, this property was once owned by a distant relative of President George Washington. The gardens were established by Louise and Owen Young who purchased the land in 1936 and built a winter retirement home. They named it Washington Oaks, and, in 1965, donated most of the property to the state. The gardens make remarkable use of native and exotic species, from azaleas and camellias to the exquisite bird of paradise, sheltered within a picturesque oak hammock. Visitors can picnic and fish from either the beach or the seawall along the Matanzas River. A number of short trails provide opportunities for hiking and bicycling. Visitors can learn about the park’s natural and cultural resources in the visitor center.

Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience is a full-time University of Florida research center for biomedical research and biotechnology. Whitney Lab is dedicated to using marine model animals for studying fundamental problems in biology and applying that knowledge to issues of human health, natural resources and the environment. The laboratory provides a public lecture series, with the goal of increasing community engagement in lifelong learning and marine science. Monthly presentations include current science topics, plus subjects from ongoing research programs at the lab. Lectures are free and registration is not necessary.

The Florida Agricultural Museum was established by a group of concerned agriculturalists and historians to help preserve this important part of Florida’s heritage. In 1997, the Florida Agricultural Museum moved to its new home on 460 acres in Flagler County. All of the museum’s buildings were moved from their original locations and renovated. In addition to preserving Florida’s agricultural past, the Museum is also active in the conservation of heritage livestock including rare Florida Cracker cattle and horses. The Florida Agricultural Museum provides a fun and educational experience for all ages.

Located on the Intracoastal Waterway, this park is within a maritime oak hammock. The park features a fishing pier, picnic and playground facilities, and an archaeological dig of the Mala Compra Plantation. Previously the plantation home of Brigadier General Joseph Hernandez, Florida’s first voice in the U.S. Congress and its first Hispanic member. General Hernandez purchased the 724 acre Mala Compra Plantation in 1816 for $1500. The plantation was destroyed by the Seminoles during the Second Seminole War. If you are looking for a scenic place to have a picnic, Bing’s Landing offers a picnic shelter, tables and grill.

Noted for its pristine condition, this tranquil park borders Pellicer Creek as it winds along Florida’s east coast down to the Matanzas River. Pellicer Creek is a popular site for birding with more than one hundred bird species seen during spring and fall migrations. Songbirds, including the colorful wood warblers, along with eagles and falcons, return to nest at the park each year. Wading birds, such as egrets, wood storks, white ibis, and herons feed in the tidal marshes and creeks. This peaceful park is also home to deer, turkeys, hawks, bobcats, and river otters. Fishing, picnicking, and nature walks are popular activities. Picnic tables and grills are scattered throughout with great views of Pellicer Creek. There is also a fishing dock and restroom facilities.

A beautiful tree is decorated each year and the community is invited to gather around the tree to share this Palm Coast tradition during the holiday season. Santa arrives on a city fire truck and live music and refreshments round out an evening of family fun. Additionally, the Flagler County Rotary opens their Annual Fantasy Lights Festival on the same evening of the ceremony. Families can tour the park and enjoy a variety of sparkling holiday light displays, each sponsored by clubs, organizations, businesses and residents. The Tree Lighting Ceremony has become a treasured family memory, pulling the entire community together to celebrate the holidays in Palm Coast.
